How to use create Privacy Policy page on your website or wordpress blog using wordpress privacy policy plugin.

If you have a website, it is very common that you should add a privacy policy page you can either do it manually or using privacy policy plugin, if you use WordPress.

Especially if you want to monetize your blog using Google Adsense, this page is a must. Otherwise, your account can be terminated.

If you scroll down to my footer, you will see my privace policy page, so you will see the live demo of this tutorial.

You can actually add this without using any privacy policy plugins, look for a website which has the similar page, and modify a bit.

Use WordPress easy privacy policy plugin.

In this tutorial, we are going to use a privacy policy plugin created by Kevin Sparrow, that you can download from dashboard or WordPress plugin site.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/easy-privacy-policy/

How to install this easy privacy policy plugin?

Let’s begin, it is very simple!

1. In your WordPress dashboard → Plugins → Add New.

2. Type in “easy privacy policy” then click search.
It should be the first of the lists.

3. Click install now, and then activate it.

4. Go to Settings → Easy Privacy Policy.

5. You can modify all the options if you like, but the most important is, you change your email address a bit. This is because, we want to prevent spam bots detects any email addresses in our sites, and send us junk emails or spams.

Example: youremail@email.com → changed to: youremail [at] email.com

    Hey Kimi,

I actully had a Privacy-Policy page on my blog since day 1, its very important to use one as you said if you want to monetize your blog.

However if you want to minimize the plugins you use, you can just create a single page (not a post) and put within it the required Privacy Policy information you need for every element of your website.

Great plugin, thanks for sharing Kimi. 🙂

      Hey Sayed,

      Great idea.

I actually did what you suggest though. I disable and deleted the plugin after creating my privacy policy page.

Before installing this plugin, i did have my own Privacy Policy page, but with the plugin it is more complete and more nice.

Thanks for stopping by and your awesome suggestions.

Hi Kimi, I have published my Own privacy policy page instead of using this plugin. Anyways, Thanks for sharing info about this useful plugin.

I did the same too Sathish, however with this plugin it is more professional, and touching about “adsense cookies” too.

In the post, i mentioned, after creating the page, i removed the plugin.

      Thanks for commenting.

This plugin is especially needed for those running Adsense – even though I personally think its a nonsense

    • Kimi says

      November 2, 2010 at 3:13 pm

      Hey Peter,

Agree with you, i used to create my own privacy policy page, but since i discovered the plugin, it generates easily and more professional.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    November 2, 2010 at 2:06 am

Great.. I always used this plugin to generate my privacy policy! Its very important to have a privacy policy.. Many people including WOT check it before rating our web site. Even adsense requires a privacy policy in our sites!

    • Kimi says

      November 2, 2010 at 3:14 pm

      Exactly Pubudu,

I have heard if we have a blog with Google adsense without privacy policy page, it is more likely one day we will be banned 🙁

      Thanks for commenting.

Hey, this is damn easy to create that page. I created that page manually for my ICT Trends blog. But this will help me for SEO MMO Tips where I’ve not set up Policy Page yet.

The policy page is perfect, covering everything for most of the standard blogs.

I liked your voice and the calmness with which you’ve presented the tutorial is really awesome.

    • Kimi says

      November 2, 2010 at 3:15 pm

      Suresh,

Yes, it is very so easy to create a privacy policy just one click of a button.

Thanks for the compliment about my voice, you should watch my older videos, they have my terrible voice LOL

      Take care.

PS: please delete my double comment in your blog LOL

    Hi Kimi, nice post.

I don’t have privacy policy on my Practical SEO blog but I have it on several other blogs of mine, maybe I should add it to PS as well. But I think I will stick to the old fashioned methods, it’s not like I need any technical knowledge to create a privacy policy page.

I sue dozen of plugins and I love them, but a plugin for something like this is a bit too much. We are not incompetent, and I am all for useful plugins and making my life as a blogger easier, but I really don’t see a point to this plugin.

This is just my opinion, hope you don’t mind me sharing it 🙂

    • Kimi says

      November 4, 2010 at 6:44 pm

      Hey Zarko,

I am trying to use less plugins at the moment, but i found this plugin can be very useful for those who need it.

Imagin, people that are not “fluent” in English, including me, this plugin will make our work more easier.

Thanks for leaving a comment and stopping by Zarko!

  10. Zarko Zivkovic says

    November 4, 2010 at 7:00 pm

great point, like I said, I can’t imagine why people would need this plugin, and I couldn’t. But now that you mentioned that it can help people who are not fluent in English I changed my mind 🙂

Didn’t even cross my mind 🙁

    • Kimi says

      November 5, 2010 at 8:42 am

Be thankful that you have a fluent English 😛

      Thanks for stopping by Zarko.

i think a privacy policy page is really an important thing for a blog to have and if you are probably using Adsense then it is a must. I think it also helps the people to trust the blog owner that their personal data is not being breached. And I actually love this plugin because it makes the whole process of adding a privacy policy page a lot easier

    • Kimi says

      November 8, 2010 at 10:22 pm

      Hi Alex,

I absolutely agree with you, this plugin saves us time just by one click of the mouse, and we will have privacy page alive.

      Thanks for leaving a comment.

      Cheers.

Thanks for the info, Kimi! This is still a very relevant topic today and your post is applicable today.

i will look into this plugin and use it on my sites.

My question for you is this – although I see you have a privacy policy page set up, I do not see it anywhere in your menu structure (i.e., visible from your home page). Did I miss it? Or, do you not have it for some reason? Was it deleted after you found out something new since you originally wrote this post?

    Thanks!
    Be Well.
    Paul.

      Hello Paul!

The plugin is unfortunately taken down from wordpress plugins directory..

I have the Privacy Policy in the second menu structure which is placed in my footer.

I probably should make the color more visible.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment

      Kind regards,

      Kimi

Hi, I went to wordpress and try to search for this plugin. However couldnt find it except for WP Policies 1.0. I find that WP Policies is not so user friendly or easy compare to the demo you shown. Can you tell me where I can get this plugin since wordpress had deleted that plugin from their directories. Is it possible for you to sent me the plugin to my email account? Thanks

      Hello Valerie,

This plugin is unfortunately deleted from plugin directory in wordpress website, and I don’t have the plugin, because once I created mine, I deleted it years ago.

However, there is another alternative, you can generate “privacy policy page” online using this site: http://www.serprank.com/privacy-policy-generator/

      I hope this helps

      Kimi.
