How to fix WordPress Not Found Page in your blog.
Actually this post idea came from one of my commenter, Lillie. She wanted to write pages content in her blog after changing home page tab and readings settings.
After she wrote page’s content, she saved it and publish the page, but when she visit the page, this wordpress not found error came up.
WordPress Not Found Page notification.
The page will be suddenly white, and it says:
“Not Found, the requested URL blog was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”.
How does this WordPress not found error appear?
It can be caused by many things, for example, changing your wordpress permalinks. If the .htaccess permission file is not writeable, changing permalinks will cause wordpress not found page.
In Lillie’s case, she did not even have .htaccess in her wordpress installation file folder. This apparently caused wordpress not found 404 error.
The fix?
Make the files writable, see more infos in changing file permission, or upload .htaccess file to your folder, make sure that you don’t override the existing .htaccess file.
I mean, before you upload the new .htaccess file, you have to make sure that you do not have .htaccess file.
Before you click “go” in cPanel → File Manager, click “show hidden files” this will enable you to see whether you have .htaccess file or not.
If you’re not sure, contact your host for support. I hope this experience will help you if you have the same 404 error wordpress not found page.
This is a great tip! There are fewer things more annoying and heart-stopping than suddenly seeing a 404 error on your page! You’ve provided a great resource here, so thanks!
Hello Tristan,
I have too, experienced this problem, it is indeed panicking if we don’t know what we did wrong.
Especially for newbies, they may think, their blog is totally gone.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
It is really amazing what you can do with htaccess, I use htaccess for many things including search engine friendly urls, redirects etc
Hey Dan,
Yes, i love htaccess the most about preventing images hotlinking 🙂
But it is pretty dangerous changing it LOL especially for newbies like me.
Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment Dan!

I am really going to be your fan. I have never noticed it before but your suggestions will help to fix, if I face in this case.
I think you post regularly on your blog and I must visit it, at least once a day, and hope each time I’ll find something new here.
Thanks a lot for your valuable information.

Banxts,
Try to disable all plugins one by one, and check if this will help.
Good luck!
Thanks Kimi,
I have been disable plugin like you say, but i still have problem. Any better ideas ?
Banxts,
Check htaccess file, is it writeable? I have never encounter this before, if it does not help, i recommend visiting wordpress.org support forum.
Kimi.

thanking you with a huge love and your suggestion is excellent.
once again thank you bro.
where can i get htacess file to download?? arighhh!! im newbiew..
Daus, If you have a blogspot, then you won’t have a htaccess file.
But if you have wordpress, then it should be in file manager (cPanel) and tick on “show hidden file” this will show your htaccess file.
