WordPress feed not updating issue
WordPress feed not updating since two days, could not deliver wordpress rss feed by email properly.
Welcome to this blog, did you see in my sidebar in the right side of this post, there is an email subscription box, where you can actually enter your email address to subscribe, which means, you will receive email whenever this blog has a new blog post.
Is it safe to enter your email address? sure it is, that email newsletter is provided by Google, a very respectable company that will not spam your inbox.
Do you want to have that box in your blog? you don’t know how to get it? My old post, activate rss with feedburner may be the answer, so you can also send email to your subscriber automatically that is delivered by Google feedburner.
If you are already a subscriber of my blog (thank you for your trust!), in the last two or three days, you might notice the weird difference of email delivery.
How do I know it? because I actually subscribe my own email subscription, that I discover very very useful if something goes wrong, I can immediately spot it myself.
And this helps me how to fix it. My problem this time, was my wordpress feed not updating, so is the feedburner email, it wasn’t updating as usual too.
It was weird, and that somehow bugs me in those days, and make me want to know why and how I can fix it.
Some old posts that points out about feed, and feedburner:
Using feedcount feedburner to show how many subscriber you have
Redirect feed to feedburner without plugin but theme
Importing blog feed in Facebook
Showing only summary of your post in feed
WordPress feed not updating Fix no 1- Your Ping resulted in an Error feedburner
Firstly, I went to Google and search for the solution.
Surprisingly, I landed in a blogger friend’s blog post, Justin article, that seems to be exactly my problem, so I have tried the steps, all of them.
In that post, it says, he could fix it by pinging the URL in troubleshoot tab inside your feedburner page, but whenever I pinged my URL, I got this message, “Your Ping resulted in an Error..”.
Then I clicked “Resync” button, hoped for my RSS feed problem to be solved, it did not help either..My wordpress feed not updating and my fedburner email feed was still not updated to my recent post.
WordPress feed not updating – My final Fix
Finally after trying a few solutions, I have found the problem. The issue seems to come from W3 Total Cache one setting.
So here is my case, this just happened right after I updated my W3 Total Cache plugin.
The sitemap.xml is updated like usual, but the feedburner feeds are not updating.
So after I have tried the method above with resync and ping my URL in feedburner, and didn’t work for my case, here is what I have done:
1. In my feedburner feed setting I have checked my feed URL by clicking the “Edit feed details” link and it will look like this:
See my feed URL was: https://www.wpvidz.com/?feed=rss2 (not updating)
2. And then I checked in my browser about the other feed URL which is: https://www.wpvidz.com/feed (and updating!)
So after found out that the second URL was actually working normal, I edit that feed URL in Google-feedburner, into this: (see screenshot below)
Then, I tested my feedburner feed to see if it works and updated, to do this, I click my own rss feed icon on the top of this blog, and it was still not updated!
3. Finally, I found out, the W3 Total Cache setting which I set to cache my feed, including feedburner. To solve this I did only “empty all caches”, by clicking “Performance” and click “Empty all caches”, and it did work beautifully.
Alternatively, I could also disable the feed setting, but I didn’t do it, because it works already by clicking that button.
In case you want to disable feedburner caching, you can go to W3 Total Cache performance tab (can be found in the admin grey bar on the top or admin left sidebar), Page Cache → Cache feeds: site, categories, tags, comments.
I hope this will fix any issues that caused wordpress feed not updating and feedburner email not updating as well.
thanks for this tips, the way it has managed to restore my site feed that was a month of no updates, now my site feed has been working as it should.
