Windows Vista Source Path Too Long – Deleting and Moving Files error message.
This happened when i want to move some of my files (movie quick time .mov files) to my external hardrive for a backup a few days ago.
How does this source path too long message look like?
When i want to move a file, this source path too long error messages comes up:
“Source Path Too Long
The source file name(s) are larger than is supported by the file system. Try moving to a location which has a shorter path name, or try to shorter name(s) before attempting this operation.”

As you see in the image, it was quite annoying error, because i have tried many times and it did not work. I even tried to move the files by putting them to a .zip file. It did not help.
How to fix this source path too long problem?
The solution was really simple, and i have never thought about it.
In this example, i wanted to move a .mov file, let’s say, this file is named: how to add a youtube to wordpress.mov
This .mov file is inside a folder which is labeled; mywordpressvideotutorialbackup.
So the fix was, rename the folder to a shorter name, like mywpbackup. It hope it will also help your source path too long error message getting fixed!
All Problems have ONE solution and that is:
Path too long.
Error cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk
Cannot delete file: Access is denied
There has been a sharing violation.
Cannot delete file or folder The file name you specified
is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.
The source or destination file may be in use.
The file is in use by another program or user.
Error Deleting File or Folder
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
Path too deep.
