Display Image Post In Squared-2 Theme

Last updated on February 18, 2017

How to add or display your custom image to be a thumbnail or post image in the front of your wordpress index page if you are using Squared-2 theme.

For some of you who use Squared-2 theme from briskstudios.com, you might encounter a problem to display the thumbnail of the post, because it doesn’t have readme.txt file and you are n00bies of the code 😉

This theme use custom field to display the post image, so you don’t need to add any codes in your functions.php, however we can still tweak it, but not this time.

This tutorial is actually for Rob, one of my commenters.I actually have made similar tutorial adding thumbnails in wordpress using custom field, and also if you are using Twenty Ten, find more in this tutorial.

So here is the steps adding image to Squared-2:

1. Make sure you got wp-cycle plugin activated.

2. Go to your post, upload an image.  Note: The image dimension should be 290×134 px size, because if it doesn’t have this exact size, it will make your blog runs slower.

  • Is my site loading fast? I use this shared hosting
  • Try my theme >

3. After you upload an image, copy the “Link URL” of the image (see the picture)

Copy the URL link of the uploaded Image.

4. Paste this URL in the “Value” box.

5. Under the “Name” box, type in “image”

6. Click “Add Custom Field” button.

The step 4,5,6

7. Update the post.

Click "Update" button.

The image should be appeared if you did the steps above correctly.

Hi Kimi that’s great – thank you so much for dedicating an entire post to my noob knowledge!

It sort of works – you can see on my site but the dimensions are slightly out. I’m guessing this is a css issue.

Also becuase it posts the same image but in a smaller scale in “from the blog” – it is also not readjusting to its required width.

Anyway – if you can help, great. If not no worries – you’ve done more that what I had hoped for so many thanks!

@rob, did you upload image which has 290×134 pixel dimension?

That box was made by the theme creator to have 290×134 pixel dimension.

Yes – I was using one of there other css style sheets that measured at 303 across – now replced with their one. I noticed you had a problem also uploading the theme – it’s a bugger of a theme but just love the layout for my niche – had to delete the twitter update and news letter script abd plugins – only way I could get footer to show.

@rob, Yes, the theme is nice, keep on using it if you like it 🙂

What do you mean i had a problem uploading the theme?

Did you have a problem uploading it? Going by your video it looked like you had the same trouble as me uploading it – I couldn’t get the footer and the plugins to show, so deleted php code for twitter and newsletter -then footer appeared.

@rob, No, i had no problem to upload the files to the server, but the plugin which should show twitter updates is not compatible.

So i have changed the plugin, and it worked now: internetnewstoday.dotf.info

The plugin is called twitter for wordpress.

No way! I spent days trying to figure it out. Ill give it another bash. Just curious – is the plugin all you changed? When I upload it I have to do it through ftp as wp won’t upload site – get some error. Anyway – thanks. Just out of curiosity if possible – if I wanted to show say 30 blog posts on my front page – would you kindly now how could I overide the current 6.
Many thanks again, I shall leave you in peace from now on!
    Thanks.

@rob, Yes, just installed the plugin and change the code in index.php which is said replace “mikebrisk” with your twitter account name, it will work, but take a while until it’s connected to twitter’s live stream.

Well that’s weird – no idea why that’s now possible – but it’s working. I only get one sidebar which is the footer so not sure how it’s drawing the feeds as twitter plugin isn’t in sidebar right now. Anyway – thanks – I’ll be getting some money in pp today – I have a number of queries with my theme but one currently is about the post page which you can see on this comments link. The page doesn’t deploy the whole length. Please let me know how much I should donate if you can help out.
    Thanks.

@rob, well your theme’s sidebar is made to be in the bottom under your post or content.

And about the link on your comment, it is probably because you haven’t set the widgets, you may want to go to Appeance/widget/ and choose any widgets, such as recent post, tag, etc. Drag those widgets to your sidebar, and refresh your page, it should work fine.

Unfortunately i can’t work on your theme, but there is a wordpress job board, which is: http://jobs.wordpress.net/ to get freelancer to suit your need.

Let me know if it helps.

    Hi,

Thanks. Tried what you advised but no joy – seems to be a browser thing, checked older firefox and ok, 3.6 not ok.

Anyway – will cheack out the jobs board – thanks again I have you booked marked!

@rob, I guess it is because the theme’s bug, i have tried it too, but the result is exactly the same as yours.

Help from theme owner would be awesome though, but if the jobs board helps, it is also not bad. Also i have checked the theme demo has lots of code errors in W3C. Here is the link.

Thanks for bookmarking me 😉 i will check your blog sometimes. Good luck with it Rob!
